The Van Eyck edition pays tribute to the Van Eyck brothers, the Flemish Masters behind the world-famous Ghent Altarpiece, also known as The Adoration of the Mystic Lamb. Completed in 1432 and displayed in St Bavo’s Cathedral in Ghent, this monumental masterpiece is renowned for its extraordinary detail, colour and complexity – qualities beautifully reflected in the character of this distinctive wine.
A mysterious Secret Blend
The composition of the wine adds another layer of intrigue. The Van Eyck 2019 is a Secret Blend, with the exact combination of grape varieties deliberately undisclosed. Rather than focusing on a single grape variety, this cuvée is all about harmony between carefully selected components and the complexity and expression of the final wine.
The nose is intense and refined, revealing aromas of ripe cherries and dark fruit, followed by floral notes of violets and attractive spicy nuances. As the wine opens, additional savoury and complex aromas gradually emerge.
On the palate, the influence of Elgin’s cool climate becomes beautifully apparent. Ripe fruit is balanced by vibrant freshness, fine tannins and impressive concentration. Powerful without becoming heavy, the wine has an elegant structure and concludes with a long, complex and persistent finish, leaving lingering impressions of fruit, flowers and spice.
